Lucky out

I will back from this blog, and already have deleted all my posts. Reasons are the killing of several filehosters and the threats, deletions and angry e-mails from from authorities, filehosters and copyright holders. It's no fun anymore, and I have better things to do than to worry about stuff like that. Thanks to all supportive contributors, bloggers, commenters and readers over the years.

Cheers, Lucky

I wish you good luck, lucky. I will not try to change your decision - even if I would like to .... Thank you for being with us and for a wonderful blog over the years.

If you need help I hope that you can mobilise the "community" ...

Oh, Lucky. :-(
I hope you know how much you'll be missed.

WHY are the bastards winning?

You'll be greatly missed Lucky. Thanks for keeping me entertained and enriching my listening. Since I was made redundant and discovered this whole scene it's been a lifeline. Good luck in your new blog free life. You've been great!

Jeremy said...

It's understandable, but damn, Lucky, you'll be sorely missed. Your inspired compilations have introduced me to amazing music and your insights (which I store as safely as the music) will continue to inform me. If you come back, we'll be listening. Best wishes

I am deeply grateful for this blog, which has been an invaluable resource for anyone interested in "The New Dutch Swing." My guess is that you have also ended up doing a great deal to expand this music's audience. Many people who would never have heard the music of such greats as Misha Mengelberg, Han Bennink, and Guus Janssen now know who they are, and appreciate them as they deserve.

There is a huge amount of music that would simply have been lost forever, or heard only by a few lucky collectors, if you hadn't featured it here. The ICP Box is a wonderful thing, and I wish it all the success in the world, but my guess is that the publicity you have provided the label here will have played an important role in its success, should it reach the requisite 300 subscribers.

Someday, maybe there will be a workable model of music distribution (including rare back catalog material) that will satisfy fans without "one per-cent" budgets while also providing a reliable income-stream to the artists who make it all possible. One can hope, anyway. Until then, we'll miss you.

that is truly a sad thing. but you can retire peacefully knowing you have an outstanding taste in music. they can't take that away. all the best.

gilhodges said...

This is just brutal. You should be rewarded for your efforts, not discouraged. The universe is a better place with your thoughtful contributions. Thanks for everything—so far.

Thanks for helping so many LISTEN via so many distributions of artistry that would otherwise remain hidden, unknown, under-appreciated, and, desperately obscured.

Damn. Well, thank you and good luck in other endeavors.

VERY sad news!

All the best, dear Mr. Lucky!
Thanks for colouring a lot of our days with your blog!

Take care!

jackalope said...

Sad for us, perhaps good for you. If the saying “what goes around comes around” is true then I expect all the best is coming your way as you've opened our ears to many a good thing. After the dust has settled a bit you know there are other like minded blogs that are staying open (we hope) who would benefit from your contributions (even if only knowledgeable commentary) should you feel inclined. I hope you don't disappear from view completely. Thank you for the music, the education, and all the good times!

Anonymous said...

A big thank you for a lot of wonderful music you posted. I believe that what made you decide is the attitude of some people (musicians) that should have been grateful but acted like they were being exploited. But do they really think that one can afford to buy music spending tens of euros? My generation, or let's simply say myself, has bought plenty of vinyl and now that things have changed a little bit, should I continue to buy expensive things I cannot afford anymore? Who can really invest hundreds of euros in a 50 cd coiffret? Not me, I hope obscurity and silence can make them more wise. All my best, Lucky, thank you again!

gilhodges said...

I disagree strongly with the previous comment from Anonymous. If a musician objects to their creative work being shared in this manner, that is their unassailable right. They do not need to justify their reasons. There is nothing to say from our end other than "thank you." The only interest we can take offense to is the corporate interest, especially when it runs (as it almost always does) counter to that of the artists. The sweet vigilante spirit that infuses so much of the democratization of the music-sharing world that occurs in exalted places like the Psychic Hut turns sour for me when the rare voice speaks in opposition to the artists themselves.

Lucky, many thanks for widening my musical horizont over the past years. I have found so much inspiration in here (i.e. artists to spend my money on), it's safe to say that your blog has done more for promoting "unusual" music than many of the official sources.

BBhelay said...

Thanks for everything. One of my favorite place just died. What will be the future of media sharing. How will I know about these hidden artists?

I will miss you too.

as a "lurker" on this fantastic site/resource, it's unfortunate that i have been motivated to speak only through this turn of events - but thank you so much for sharing (as another poster mentioned) your spot-on taste in music. it's been an educational, fun, enriching, and humbling experience.

all the best!

Thanks a lot Lucky for all the music I would never have heard of, never mind heard.

Hope to bump into you around the blogosphere.

This is sad news for me too. I discovered your Psychic Hut maybe a year ago and found it one of the most stimulating places for music on the net. Thank you for sharing your ecclectic tastes with the rest of us!

Cheers Lucky, thanks for all the shared beauty.

Forgive my excess, but this is devastating news. I'm really sad that someone who put so much love into his work in the end feels so bad about it. But if you feel that bad, the best thing to do is get OUT.
Best wishes, Lucky, and don't forget the good times.
And please don't disappear altogether.
And, most importantly: THANK YOU!

Thank you Lucky.
It's time to find other ways to communicate then on the web, wich is becoming a kind of police state.
In the end it's all just ones and zeros, we have the music in our hearts.

Thanks for having shared your sublime musical interest and knowledge. All the richer for it.

Darn, i had just found Your blog recently. Quite tasty music that used to be there. No,really, age of evil must this be. What's the harm in putting up basically out-of-print music?

Your blog will go down as one of my top favorites ever and I'm deeply grateful! My taste is similar to yours and I have downloaded almost everything and painstakingly repaired all the missing/broken tags, so these precious documents are safe and sound. I will try to spread them around as much as possible in honor of the art! Best wishes to you and your magnificent ears!

Thank you for all of the great work. I'm not sure if any of the threats came from the Instant Composers Pool, but they should recognize that you kept their music alive when they didn't give a rat$ a$$ about reissuing their majestic back catalog. Kudos to everyone who provided a vinyl rip, and to you for posting it.

I see that ICP is now reissuing their complete works. I'm going to buy it, of course. However, this blog--and being able to hear all of those rare records, long OOP--is why I'm buying it. The music is beautiful. You uncovered the diamonds buried in the dirt.

Anonymous said...

i hear you, anon - and it feels good, of course! :) i have all those rare icp-albums as digital files, most of them in flac - but it's no physical thing, although i'm able to HEAR it. my record and cd collection has so much more substance for me than the data on my harddrive, but i guess i'm an old poof and in some years no will giva a hoot about records (or old rare music, in general) - which all reminds me of the old residents' proverb: "ignorance of your own culture isn't considered cool", and for me the music of icp and related is part of what i feel as a human being...

not long ago i got an e-mail by the company who will isue the icp-box - they still have to get more subscribers to get the thing in print, fingers crossed!!

get that box out, damn it :)
